Some cars need more than a standard recovery. A supercar with a front splitter a few centimetres off the ground, a lowered hatchback, a 1960s classic with chrome bumpers, a car on air suspension that’s sunk to the floor: all of them can be damaged by a rushed loading or a strap in the wrong place. We take the time to do it properly.
Loading low cars
The steeper the ramp, the more likely a low car is to catch its splitter, sill or exhaust on the way up. We use ramp extensions to lengthen the slope and reduce the angle, then winch the car on slowly with one person watching the gap at the front. If the car is lowered or has an aftermarket kit, tell us the ground clearance if you know it.
Strapping without marks
Every car on our truck is held down with soft straps that loop over the tyres and fix to the bed at each wheel. Nothing is attached to the suspension arms, the subframe or the bodywork, and nothing touches painted or polished wheels. The car stays still, and the suspension isn’t compressed for the whole journey.
Cars we’re asked to handle with care
- Supercars and sports cars, many with transport modes, launch-control quirks or electronic handbrakes that need the right steps before they’ll roll
- Classic and vintage cars, including cars that haven’t been started for years
- Lowered, modified and track cars, with stiff suspension and low splitters
- Prestige saloons and SUVs with air suspension, which can drop when the battery goes flat
- Electric performance cars, which must always travel on a flatbed; see electric car recovery
