Cars rarely break down somewhere convenient. It might be a warning light and a loss of power on the A406, a car that won’t restart outside the supermarket, or one that coasted to a stop on a side street at two in the morning. Wherever it happened, call us, and we’ll get a truck to you and your car home or to the garage.
While you wait for us
- Get off the road if you can. Pull into a side street, a lay-by or a car park, as far from moving traffic as possible.
- Hazard lights on, and sidelights too if it’s dark or misty.
- Get everyone out on the side away from the traffic, if it’s safe to do so, and wait somewhere safe, behind a barrier if there is one.
- Call us, or tap “Send my location” to share exactly where you are on WhatsApp.
On a motorway or a fast dual carriageway, don’t put out a warning triangle and don’t try to fix anything. Get behind the barrier and wait there. See motorway recovery.
Breakdowns we recover every day
- Overheating, from a failed water pump, a split hose or a fan that’s stopped working
- Clutch and gearbox failures, including automatics stuck in limp mode
- Snapped timing belts and auxiliary belts, where the engine shouldn’t be restarted
- Wrong fuel. Petrol in a diesel, or the other way round. Don’t start the engine: we’ll take the car to a garage or fuel-drain specialist
- Electrical faults: warning lights, a dead dashboard or a car that won’t come out of park
- Punctures with no spare, a missing locking wheel nut key or damage to the wheel itself
How your car travels
Every car we recover goes on the flatbed with all four wheels off the road, strapped down at each wheel. That’s the safe way to move automatics, four-wheel drives, and electric and hybrid cars, all of which can be damaged if they’re towed on their own wheels. It’s also how we move cars with seized brakes, flat tyres or damaged steering. If your car simply won’t start, have a look at what to try first before you call.
Where we take it
Home, your usual garage, a main dealer or a specialist anywhere in London or the rest of mainland Britain. Most of the time you can travel with us in the cab, so you’re not left finding your own way home.
